UNDRESS FOR JESS

Jessica Tormo is a brilliant illustrator with a social conscience.

A passion for drawing the natural form led Jess to begin drawing uni pals during lockdown; friends would send her images anonymously and be transformed into stunning sketches. This prompted the artist to set up a dedicated Instagram page, where anyone could submit themselves to be transformed into art if they donated to a charity close to Jess’ heart, Woman’s Aid.

As many people will be aware, domestic abuse cases have risen during the pandemic with little media exposure. This young talent aimed to change this shocking fact, and managed to exceed expectations and raise over £400.

Jess told The Knot:

“It was such a great feeling combining doing something I loved with raising money for a brilliant cause. Pouring myself into the project also enabled me to block out all the negativity and anxiety that accompanied the lockdown period, which I feel was super beneficial for my mental health.”

After having achieved amazing things in such a short space of time, Undress for Jess became a verified small business; commissions are available to order through Instagram. The artist’s mission continues to strengthen.

Jess told us:

“I want women to reclaim their bodies. I want them to send me nudes that make them empowered as fuck, enough to hang on their walls and admire every day. I want these women to feel liberated, independent and to enjoy seeing themselves naked. Why should the nudes we take always be for someone else’s satisfaction? There’s definitively something incredible about transforming these nudes into drawings, portraying women the way they want to be portrayed, rather than through the eyes of someone else. I’m loving what I’m doing.”

We know the future has some exciting projects in store for Jess, who’s undying determination to help others is beyond admirable. We at The Knot cannot wait to see what comes next! .
